Art statement of Yu Yang Xian and portfolio
The space between representation by reality and that by thoughts has been crashed down by art in contemporary context. All the things that have been discriminated by reality have changed in a way as if they have been radiated. Because the thoughts have been drawn too close to the objects of the thoughts, attempting to touch, smell, and lick them, so as that all the objects have been gone through changes too. When arts and reality are drifting in different directions, the anchor of the language has been pulled out, and it becomes an increasingly urgent question how to realize the possibilities of arts. As Walter Benjamin put it “ The language has clearly indicates that memory is by no means a tool to explore the past but a theater for the past. Memory is the medium of the past experiences, like the earth is to burying the city of death”.
Established in 2015, Yu Yang Xian Art Group is composed of several artists, committed to explore the possibilities of experimental thoughts and concepts and seek to dig into the realistic significance of the arts in contemporary context.

Two Types of Truths 两种真理
Two types of Truths include two types of darkness and light, two types of power and counter-power, irresistible call for actions and seemingly ineffective persistence. The work intends to depict an untellable scenario in which the simple daily actions revealed an universal, deep, unconscious, inconceivable but irresistible drive, a yearning for a mysterious truth and unbearable fight against the reversed power. The work aims to transform the thread of the simple action into a direct source of spiritual motivation, to intrigue an imagery imagination in audiences with the simplistic actions.
两种真理： 两种黑暗和光明，两种力量和反力量， 不可抵抗的行动召唤和似乎无效的坚持。 影像以安静而极简的情节描绘了一种无可言说的境况， 试图通过简单日常的动作本身发现一种共通的、 深层的、 无意识的、 然而又不可思议不可遏制的驱动， 某种对神秘真相的向往和其不可承受之反转的对抗。 艺术家试图把简单的行为线索，转化成精神激励的直接源泉， 让观众在有趣或无趣、重复或静止的感受中去解读当中的线索并展开对于图像的想象。
The Door 门
This work is a spiritual metaphor. The distance from one door to another could be a condensed history; a door being opened and then closed could be part of now-to-future, containing a rich psychological landscape of fantasy and yearning. In the frame of “The Door”, two artists are wrapped, connected, intertwined, dragged together and looped around from one door to the other in a mysterious heavy-paced ritual, in that restriction versus freedom, self versus the other become a limitless contemplation over the actions of arriving at and going through a door.
门，可以是一个精神隐喻； 门与门之间的距离， 可以是一段浓缩历史； 一道门打开及关上， 可以是现在-未来的一部分，既包含着婉转示人的幻想与渴望也预示着巨大可能性的心理风景。 在核心母题“门”之下，艺术家的行为被白布包裹、缠绕、连接、牵制， 给穿越门以及徘徊在门之间的过程增加了仪式般的、钝重的神秘， 也给穿越门抵达门的动作赋予了关于束缚与自由， 个体与他者， 朝圣与孤离之间的想象。
Paper Scissor Rock 剪刀石头布
Deep within, there are two ghosts are fighting against each other. Which one would win and which one would lose? The answer might be whomever being fed more would win, but who knows which “oneself” one would feed more. Hell is other people but the burning fire of the hell is actually within oneself? Each “self” has metamorphosed numerous “others”, many men of straw. If every monster has faded away in the darkness, would the “self” keep fighting and hence finding its own being in the fights?
一个人深处的两个幽灵，互相在搏斗。 一个叫“我”， 另一个也叫“我”， 输赢胜负永远喂不饱两只难以自洽他洽的困兽。 如果他者真的是地狱，还是地狱的灼烧之火在自己的心里？ 每一个“我”都可以幻化出无数的他者，形态各异的假想敌。 当围攻械斗的怪兽都突然隐去， 那个想要赢取战争的“我” 还会存在吗？

小组作品： 时间简史 A Brief History of Time
Time is a concept about unvarying eternity, subject to the perception by the Human Kind, a measurement on events or processes. In human’s history, time is considered as the running rivers that would never flow back. We could neither see nor hear the time. We could measure the time but we could never reverse it. Regardless whether we could set the clock go backward, the time still goes onward. Time would not surrender to the will of anyone or anything. Whoever wishes to change how the time goes is taking a vain attempt to override history.
